Why Do We Dream?

Why Do We Dream?

When Do We Dream?- We tend to dream during a period of sleep called REM (Rapid Eye Movement) Sleep. REM sleep normally occurs within a few hours of waking up.

Theory #1- We Dream to Adapt- This theory deals with the thought that during sleep if we dream about being chased or saving someone then we are really training ourselves. By dreaming about this we train our brain how to react in response to threatening situations. In REM sleep the brain fires in the same way as it does when it is specifically threatened for survival.

Theory #2- Dreams Give us Wisdom- This theory states that when we dream our brain goes through all of the things we did the day before. By doing this the brain sorts through these memories and determines which ones to retain and which ones to lose. So, this theory says sleep uses the information we have learned and decides which ones to keep and which ones to lose.

Theory #3- There is no reason we dream- This theory simply says that there is no valid reason we dream. Our brain just fires randomly while we sleep and when it does there is no significance for this.

Book Review

Halo: The Fall of Reach by Eric Nylund is a science-fiction adventure thriller. The story takes place in the “not so distant future,” the year 2525.  The reader will instantly be hooked.

John is not your average boy, and little does he know he is about to be a part of something big…the MJOLNIR Project.  This is the first book in the Halo series.  John goes by many names throughout the book, such as Spartan-117, but the reader will come to know him as Master Chief.  Dr. Halsey is the brains behind the project, the one who wants and hopes that John will do well.  Is John the best Spartan ?

My favorite part of the book is when John first puts on his MJOLNIR armor.  He is the first successful test because of all of his training and body modifications, compared to the others. The reason the other test subjects fail is because the suit multiplies everything from speed to strength and they did not have as much training as John did. After John and his squad are suited up and fitted, they don’t have much time until they have to use them.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes the hit xbox 360 Halo series. The series gives the reader an idea of what life is like in the future. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars because as a gamer myself, I have played these games, and I like how this series gives the reader a story about John      before Reach was destroyed.
